A forehead lift, browlift, and temporal lift are all cosmetic surgeries that are performed to improve frown lines, crow’s feet, vertical creases, and sagging eyebrows that may develop with age. Through these procedures, facial youth is significantly restored. A forehead lift, browlift, and temporal lift also have permanent results as opposed to Botox which produces only short-term results.
There are four methods to perform forehead, eyebrow, and temporal lift:
1. Traditional forehead lift/brow lift
2. Endoscopic forehead lift/brow lift
3. Direct brow lift
4. Temporal brow lift
In this procedure, forehead skin and tissue are carefully moved up to a new position and muscles are relaxed to help correct deep frown lines and wrinkles. The excess tissue is then cut away. The incision is made behind the frontal hairline and goes from ear to ear.
The hairline helps hide the scar. The operation is performed under general anesthesia and takes approximately 2 hours. Recovery time is usually one week after surgery.
An endoscopic lift is a minimally invasive cosmetic surgery procedure. Plastic surgeons make four tiny incisions below the hairline and an endoscope is inserted into one of the incisions to allow the surgeon to see inside the forehead. Wrinkles are eliminated and the eyebrow position is elevated.
This procedure is performed in 2 hours using general anesthesia. The recovery time is around one week after surgery.
If the patient’s forehead is high with the eyebrows close to the eyes, the surgeon will opt to do a Direct Brow Lift. In this procedure, the surgeon makes an incision line as close as possible to the upper eyebrow to help hide the scar. The excess skin is then removed leaving the patient’s eyebrows in their new position.
This is the best procedure to quickly adjust the positioning and shape of the eyebrows. However, it will leave a small scar.
The Temporal Lift is a procedure that addresses problems in the outer corner of the eyes such as crow’s feet and flat or downward slanted brows.
In this procedure, the incision is created above the ear about 5 cm behind the patient’s hairline. Then the skin and muscle covering one-third of the patient’s eyebrow is pulled up to help improve the eyebrow curve. Once the curve is improved, the surgeon closes the incision with sutures.
This procedure takes approximately 1-2 hours and is performed both under local or general anesthesia. It generally takes 1 week to recover from this procedure.

The risk of complications associated with a forehead lift, brow lift, and temporal lift are rare but include:
Wounds after surgery can take up 10 to 14 days to heal. Patients may return to work in this time frame depending on their recovery. The surgery’s final results should be visible after a few months.
This surgery can help widen the forehead and lift the eyebrows, resulting in a more youthful-looking face. For patients with downward-slanting eyebrows, the temporal lift procedure can help elevate the eyebrows and create a more radiant and youthful appearance.
