Facial Plastic Surgery For A Feminine Nose

A More Feminine Nose

The nose is one of the most prominent features of a person’s face, for both male and female faces. For this reason, an important step for someone transitioning may be to get rhinoplasty done for a more feminine nose. This is a cosmetic procedure to reshape the human nose according to the patient’s preferences, often to achieve a narrower appearance or to lift the nasal tip slightly.

Noses are one of the features that tend to differ a lot between men and women. Female noses generally have a finer bridge and an upturned nasal tip, while male noses often have a wide, straight bridge. Even if people don’t notice facial features individually, how we perceive a person’s face as a whole is definitely influenced by them.

Facial proportions also play a big role in how a person’s gender is perceived. When a woman’s nose is feminine and proportionate to the rest of her facial features, it can boost her confidence and self-esteem.

Male vs Female Facial Features

The facial bone structure differs greatly between men and women, and the nose is one of the facial features that transgender patients might like to mask/highlight for a more desirable final result.

Male faces are angular as their bone structure is bigger and rougher. Male chins are more prominent, and they tend to have square jawlines. The gonial angle, which is the angle at which a jawline meets the earlobe, is more prominent in men. The male brow ridge is often stronger and protrudes further outward than that of their female counterparts, and they have less rounded thicker eyebrows. This feature makes male eyes appear deep-set, and male foreheads can appear bigger. Men tend to have flatter cheekbones compared to their strong jaws.

While there is a wide variety of male eyelids, male cheeks and male lips, not all of which are necessarily super masculine features by themselves, the other facial features on a man make up his masculine appearance as a whole.

Women, on the other hand, usually have a softer and more delicate facial appearance. Female foreheads are usually smaller with a less protruding brow ridge, which makes female eyes appear bigger and brighter. Women have rounded or arched brows. Female lips are often full, and pair well with their thinner female chins and v-shaped jawlines. Women generally have fuller cheeks and more prominent cheekbones. A big part of what makes a feminine face, is, of course, a delicate and feminine nose.

Rhinoplasty: More Feminine Appearance

Facial plastic surgery can work wonders to take a more masculine face and turn it into a more feminine face. A transgender patient may choose to emphasize essential elements of their face with the help of a facial plastic surgeon and feminizing rhinoplasty.

Rhinoplasty requires a lot of skill and experience because the nose needs to remain proportionate to the rest of the face while still giving the patient the desired feminine appearance.

Feminizing rhinoplasty includes reducing the overall size and changing the shape of the nose, according to the patient’s individual needs.  Usually, the procedure also includes making the nose’s internal structures narrower. The nasal tip can also be lifted for a more upturned nose. This is a tricky procedure, however, as the nose is structurally and aesthetically linked.

This procedure is usually performed alongside other surgeries, such as a genioplasty (or chin reduction) and augmentation of the lips to appear fuller.

Rhinoplasty Benefits

As it is such a prominent facial feature, there are many benefits to using rhinoplasty for a more feminine nose.

  • Sometimes cosmetic rhinoplasty also fixes existing problems with breathing or a deviated septum
  • It gives transgender patients the feminine nose they want and always should have had
  • It can help transgender patients feel more at ease with their appearance after they have transitioned
  • It can boost confidence and self-esteem
  • Rhinoplasty can correct crooked, hooked, angular or skew noses

Preparing For Your Rhinoplasty

Before booking a rhinoplasty, it is important to schedule a consultation with your physician or plastic surgeon- or both. This is so that you can discuss your overall health, the risks involved with any surgical procedure, and your desired appearance.

Your plastic surgeon will discuss the procedure with you, as well as the steps you may need to take before surgery. You may be asked to stop smoking or avoid certain medications, like aspirin or other anti-inflammatory drugs. It is also important to avoid alcohol for at least a week before your operation.

Be sure to get a list of pre-care instructions from your doctor, and follow them.

Nose Job FAQs

Is there an ideal nose shape/ more attractive nose shape?

No.

The ideal nose shape is the nose shape that you would want and think would suit you. As long as it makes you feel happy and confident, and you don’t develop any problems or loss of functionality, the most attractive nose shape is the one you have always wanted.

Is there a way to make my face look more feminine without surgery?

Yes! Having long hair can help to hide a more prominent jawline.

Makeup is also a great tool and can be used not only as a form of expression but also to create optical illusions on the face- masking areas you wish to hide and highlighting areas you wish to emphasize. For example, a more feminine nose can be achieved using makeup by creating more shadow and contour along the outside and tip of the nose. Lips can be made fuller using lip liner and over-lining slightly. More prominent cheekbones can be achieved by creating shadows underneath and using a highlighter where the light would naturally hit a high cheekbone.

What is the rhinoplasty procedure like?

The rhinoplasty procedure is usually as follows:

  • The patient gets anesthesia
  • An incision is made across the columella and the skin is gently pulled back
  • The nose structure is reshaped and/or corrected
  • The incision is closed with stitches
  • Recovery
